At Science House, our mission is to bring people together to promote and advance science. We do this by helping scientists turn innovative ideas into successful startup businesses; by funding exciting science and math education projects for kids; and by connecting scientists with investors, entrepreneurs, politicians, reporters, job opportunities, volunteer projects, and much more.
The mobile science lab travels to over 7,000 high school students in South Africa each year, giving these students a rare opportunity to experience science in a "live" and hands-on context - an opportunity their schools lack the facilities to provide. Science House funding is in progress to help provide new equipment for the mobile lab, keeping it at the cutting edge.
Margery studied the co- and post-translational modifications that are required for Drosophila developmental protein, Wingless, to be secreted. This protein is in the Wnt family of proto-onco genes and is essential for embryogenesis in invertebrates and vertebrates, including humans.
Take a look at her photo slideshow as she brings together her beloved Drosophila and her passion for poker.
